In this article, the author did a great job at the depicting the horror that the father and son caused. A father and son that worked at a Baptist church were charged with the rape of teenage girls that attended the church. The father, Larry Winn, was director of the transportation ministry at his church, while his son, Steven Winn, was the assistant youth pastor. They both had ample opportunities to access children. Police believed that there were several children that they sexually assaulted. One woman has already made a statement to the police about how she was raped by the father when s he was just 16 years old. After reading the article, I can say that the author used a formal diction. The emotional connection from the author's writing was extremely powerful towards the readers. The emotional connection was strong because of the subject matter. The fact that two prominent associates of a church were charged with the raping and sexual assaulting of teenagers is heartbreaker. At that, multiple children were assaulted by these disgusting men. The author's tone in the article was sympathetic.
The article appealed to both ethos and pathos. Ethos were appealed because the police departments and specific locations were credited throughout the article. For pathos, they were appealed because of how I felt towards the repulsive actions the men took. The intended purpose of the article was to inform readers to stay safe, no matter what kind of setting you're in. Even though, it might seem safe, things and places might not always be.
