In this article, the author did a superb job at explaining the deleterious effects of the recent shooting at a Los Angeles high school. A 12- year old girl took fire to children in her school causing two students to be hospitalized and other students with minor injuries. Right now, the police have not given any future information about her other than her age. At first, she was just identified as a "suspect," now she's a "person of interest." Throughout the article, the author's diction was a mixture between formal and informal. There was a lot of emotional connection to the readers throughout the article. The readers felt the emotional connection because of how the writer explained what happened to the young children at a place that is supposed to be safe for children. The tone of the article was depressing and heartbreaking.
The article appealed to both ethos and pathos. For ethos the author including statements from parents and students from the shoot out. Also, statements from the police officers. The article appealed to pathos because of the horrible event, which caused several emotions from the readers. The author provided information about what occurred at the shooting. The purpose of this article was to inform the readers about how anyone, no matter what age or what gender they are can cause significantly harmful affects to people.
